A Place for Ideas to Become Something
ByJollyColostrum is difficult to describe with a single label—and that is entirely intentional.
It is a creative canvas: a place for the expression, exploration and development of whatever happens to come into creative focus.
That might be a novel, a film, a piece of music, an unusual idea, an experiment, a documentary, a screenplay or something that doesn’t comfortably belong in any established category.
It might be complete stupidity created simply because it makes us laugh.
It might be an intensely emotional story exploring some of the darkest aspects of human experience.
Both belong here.
ByJollyColostrum isn’t built around a particular genre, medium or audience. It is built around ideas.
Where Ideas Begin
Not every idea begins with a business plan and a clearly defined destination.
Sometimes it begins with a sentence.
An image.
A strange question.
A character who refuses to disappear.
A piece of music.
A ridiculous conversation.
A story that needs to be told.
Or simply the thought:
What would happen if we tried this?
ByJollyColostrum gives those ideas somewhere to exist.
Some will remain small experiments. Some will be created, enjoyed and forgotten. Others may develop into books, films, music, video series or entirely new projects.
And occasionally, a seemingly insignificant idea may grow into something substantial.
That’s part of the adventure.
No Particular Respect for Boundaries
Publishing is part of ByJollyColostrum, but ByJollyColostrum is not simply a publishing company.
Film is part of it, but it isn’t simply a film studio.
There is music, writing, storytelling, video, narrative development, design and experimentation—and inevitably there will be things that haven’t occurred to us yet.
An idea doesn’t need to remain in the form in which it began.
A screenplay might become a novel.
A novel might become a film.
A piece of music might inspire a story.
A ridiculous video might become a series.
A passing thought might become an entirely new creative direction.
The medium serves the idea, rather than the other way around.
Serious When It Matters. Ridiculous When It Doesn’t.
There is no requirement here that creativity must always be important.
Some stories deserve to be treated with emotional depth, beauty and seriousness. Others exist because life is absurd and sometimes the best response is to make something equally absurd.
ByJollyColostrum has room for both.
There can be darkness without everything becoming dark.
There can be humour without everything becoming a joke.
There can be experimentation without knowing whether it will succeed.
And there can be ambitious projects that begin with nothing more than curiosity.
A Creative Work in Progress
Perhaps the simplest way to understand ByJollyColostrum is that it is never really finished.
The website itself is part gallery, part workshop and part doorway into whatever is being created at the time.
Some things you find here will be complete. Others will be developing. Some may eventually become far larger than originally imagined.
Because this is ultimately a place where ideas are allowed to begin before anyone demands to know exactly what they are going to become.
Books. Film. Music. Stories. Experiments. Complete stupidity. Intense drama.
Whatever comes into creative focus next.
